Visit California and participating tourism partners across the state have had a busy spring on social media. Since January, the team and expert influencers have hosted three Twitter Chats covering family travel, outdoor adventure and culinary experiences. Read on to learn more about each chat and how California has been trending.
#Kidifornia Twitter chat with Traveling Mom
With the launch of the Kidifornia campaign and the California Family Initiative, Visit California partnered with family travel site Traveling Mom to sponsor their weekly Twitter party on March 13, 2017. The chat highlighted family-friendly experiences across the Golden State, encouraging participants to share stories, photos and their California vacation dreams.
In addition to Traveling Mom hosting the chat, five other panelists helped guide discussion and share their own stories: Cool Mom Cool Tips, Desert Chica, Kids are a Trip, My No-guilt Life, and Traveling Dad. Each panelist also posted California content to their blog to further promote the chat and the Kidifornia campaign.
The chat generated 5,124 tweets with an estimated reach of more than 10 million, along with more than 67 million timeline deliveries. There were 1,223 contributors, and #Kidifornia became a trending hashtag on March 13!
Catch the Winter Wave Twitter chat with Passion Passport
To highlight California’s winter adventures, Visit California partnered with Passion Passport on March 2, 2017 for an engaging one-hour Twitter chat about "Catching the Winter Wave" in the Golden State.
Questions were posed with the specific focus of highlighting all the outdoor winter activities and fun experiences that Passion Passport community members have had while traveling or living in California. For those who had never been, this chat was an invaluable opportunity to learn more about the region and get local authentic suggestions and tips.
Co-hosts for this chat were Josh McNair, @CAThroughMyLens (10k followers); Laura Austin, @LAustin_ (4.4k followers); and Matt Mosteller, @PowderMatt (11.7k followers). In total, there were 110 participants who generated a total of 702 tweets, reaching an estimated 1.1 million people and an additional 6.5 million timeline deliveries. And best of all, the chat made #VisitCalifornia a trending U.S. hashtag for March 2, 2017!
In addition to Twitter, the chat was promoted on Passion Passport’s Instagram to its 792,000 followers and via its newsletter to its 33,000 subscribers.
California Restaurant Month Twitter chat with #FoodieChats
In celebration of California Restaurant Month, Visit California sponsored the January 23, 2017 #FoodieChats Twitter Chat. Using the #DreamEats, the chat highlighted culinary experiences available throughout the state.
There were 451 contributors with a total estimated reach of more than 3 million, generating 33.5 million timeline deliveries. This #DreamEats chat not only exceeded, but doubled #FoodieChats weekly average for reach and impressions, and the chat was trending on Twitter that night.
Following this chat and leveraging the partnership, Visit California co-hosted an "Instameet" with #FoodieChats to further highlight CRM and the California Dream Eater series. The #FoodieChats contributors also took a culinary road trip through Southern California and continued to post throughout their respective journies.
