The annual New York City Media Reception was held this year on Tuesday, March 21 at Spring Studios in Tribeca.
The Tribeca neighborhood was chosen as the location for the second year in a row so as to be closer to the many publishing houses that have moved downtown in recent years and to allow easy access in from Brooklyn. And, once again, this move paid off, with 99 media in attendance to meet with Visit California's 42 destination, accommodation and attraction partners from throughout California. Famed sand sculptor Todd Vander Pluym in attendance to talk about his latest creation, a 40-foot 'Kidifornia' Sand Sculpture at the South Street Seaport.
Journalists in attendance included editors and contributors from outlets including Food Network Magazine, Parents, Upscale Magazine, Epoch Times, Thrillist.com, Travel + Leisure, Skift, The Rachael Ray Show, Today and many more.
Guests enjoyed wine donated by the Wine Institute and creative hors d’oeuvres, which included a poke bar and a dim sum shop. But most importantly, guest said they made great connections and fostered what will hopefully be long-term relationships.
“I met quite a few new contacts and had a really enjoyable evening getting to know new folks," said Sienna Spencer-Markles, media relations manager at McCue Communications, representing Ventura County Coast. "Some were familiar with Ventura County and some were not, so it was a great mix. Some already had plans to visit CA and some needed a reason to come out, so each conversation was different and unique.”
And from the media side, a producer from Today summed the event up, succinctly saying, “We had the BEST TIME EVER – so grateful for the invitation.”
All media left with California gift bags that included wine generously donated by the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau, Visit Napa Valley, Visit Santa Barbara and their amazing local winery partners.
